2019 Honda Insight Prototype Previewed with All-New Design
American rock and roll legend Bruce Springsteen once sang about the glory days saying “they’ll pass you by in the blink of a young girl’s eye.” This paradigm holds true for automotive manufacturers the same way it does for a “great baseball player back in high school.”
When you do something well, after all, it can be easy to see it as the summit of a mountain, rather than a foundation to build off of with future success.
Introduced in 1999, the Honda Insight gave us here in Vineland and across the United States of America our first hybrid vehicle. The insight provided an unprecedented number of miles which could be squeezed out of every gallon of gasoline, a trait that would come to be valued as gas prices hit nearly $5 a gallon in the early 2000s.
Since its discontinuation in 2014, Honda has made massive progress by offering fuel-efficient hybrid variants of popular vehicles on its lineup.
Although models like the 2017 Accord Hybrid, Clarity Fuel-Cell and upcoming 2018 Clarity Plug-In Hybrid have filled the gap left by the Insight, drivers have been interested to see if Honda would revive the devoted hybrid.
The time has come.
New Honda Insight Specs
Rather than compete in the compact/subcompact space like the Insight of old, the newest model with sit above the Civic and Fit in Honda’s lineup of 5-passenger sedans.
Without a ton of details as to design inspiration and fit, a press release by Honda teasing the new model describes it as “stylish,” offering an “entirely new approach with the styling, packaging, premium features and performance desired by mainstream car buyers.”
The new Insight will be the first to utilize Honda’s two-motor hybrid system, offering incredible fuel economy in what is, presumably, a midsize sedan.
We don’t know much more than that at this moment, but will be sure to update you here on our blog when we know more about the new Insight.
When Will the New Honda Insight Be Out?
The new Honda Insight will be officially previewed at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit next month.
Following the reveal of the prototype, it’s likely we’ll see specs and features gradually release on the newest addition to Honda’s electrified lineup.
Here at Rossi Honda, we’re really excited to see just how much performance and value the new Honda Insight brings. We’re well aware that the market is asking for a hybrid vehicle with Honda reliability and design sensibility that provides massive value, efficiency and comfort.
We’ll update you on additional specs, photos and release date information when we have more from Honda.
Although much remains to be seen about the all-new Insight, what we know so far has us thinking Honda is doing more than just revisiting the glory days, they’re creating new ones.
